How to get help with health issues as a student

Are you feeling extremely stressed before an exam, or have you started drinking more than usual since beginning your studies? You can turn to Feelgood, the student health provider for the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology.

Rebecka Barahona, psychologist, and Jasmin Jalabian, occupational health nurse, both from Feelgood, appeared on the Kårrespondenterna podcast to talk about how they support students through the student health service during their studies.

– What we help with is very broad. The main criteria are that the issue should be related to your studies, or that your studies have contributed to how you are feeling, says Jasmin.

You do not have to feel extremely unwell

As a student, many factors can affect your wellbeing, from intense exam periods to being new in a city where you may not know anyone. At Feelgood, support is available for a wide range of concerns, and you do not need to feel a certain way to be eligible for help, Rebecka explains.

– You do not have to feel extremely unwell to come to us. The threshold is low. Many students worry that they are not feeling bad enough to seek help, but please reach out. We will not tell you that you are not feeling bad enough to come here.

Feelgood works preventively and can also provide guidance on nutrition, ergonomics and physical activity.

– It may also be that you have faced challenges in the past and feel that this semester you want a fresh start. We want to support you in having the best possible study experience in several different ways, says Jasmin.
